January 24, 2020

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a great week in school with almost all our friends back in class and finally getting to enjoy playing outside again!

Please remember that we will continue to play outside during the winter, so the children should be prepared with hats, mittens, proper footwear and snow pants.

This week we were very lucky to spend a day with Scientist Claire with our Scientists in School in-school field trip. We learned all kinds of great stuff about winter and we got a chance to be climatologists (studying weather), ornithologists (studying birds) and biologists (studying animals)! Ask your children about some of the great activities and experiments they did!

We are continuing to work on our personal narrative project in Social Studies by drawing self-portaits. We watched the story about Austin's Butterfly (See the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqh1MRWZjms ) and learned about how to help give feedback to our friends to help make our drawings more accurate. We drew our first draft of our self-portraits by looking at mirrors of the details on our face. Next week we will be making our second draft to add to our project!

Next week we will be beginning our Geometry unit in Math, starting with the circle and square shapes. We will be continuing with number practice counting the number sequence 1 to 10, forwards and backwards and counting up to 20.

We will be focusing on the letters O and P and continue reviewing the following sight words:
