Online Learning and Story Time!

Dear Students and Families,

I hope you all have had a restful Spring Break! Today we started planning for our next steps in online learning. I was able to connect with a few of you today and I will be contacting everyone by phone by Wednesday at the latest. 

Brightspace by D2L is the platform I will be using to share all of the lessons, activities and videos for learning while we are not in the classroom. Here is the link to where you can log in to D2L:

I will share your individual login information with you when we connect this week. 

We will be officially starting on Monday April 6th. I will post daily lessons and daily videos of story read-alouds from myself, Ms. Dang or Ms. Chan.

Dear Students, Families and Friends,

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping safe and healthy. I miss you so much already!

We have been in school this week cleaning up and we recorded a video for you.

I hope you have fun looking through all your school books. Please share all your amazing learning with your families! 

You can use the empty pages in your visual journal and blue journal to draw pictures of things you are doing at home. I would LOVE to see some photos of your drawings and what you are up to. :)

After Spring Break we will be supporting learning at home. When I know more information about how this will be done I will let you know. Make sure you take some time to rest and relax over the next week!

Dear Family and Friends, 

This week we had a Yoga residency during gym class and we got to participate in several yoga lessons. It was a great way to start off our month of learning about Wellness. 

This week we have been focusing on how to show ourselves self-love and self-care. We read the book The Good Egg and we saw all the ways he showed himself love and we brainstormed how we could do the same for ourselves. Next week we will continue to practice lots of different ways to show self-love and how to help ourselves if we are feeling sad, angry, worried or frustrated. 

We also practiced how to retell a story and we retold the story of The Good Egg visually. Next week we will look at all the red and green choices the eggs in the story make and we will practice orally retelling The Hungry Caterpillar and The Good Egg. We will also begin to make connections between our personal story, the personal story of the egg and the personal story of the caterpillar. We will be comparing things that are the same and things that are different. 

We made individual centre time goals this week and we are working hard to achieve them during centres. 

In Math we focused on the positional vocabulary 'above' and 'below'. Next week we will focus on 'near' and 'far'. Soon we will be moving from geometry to focusing our learning on measurement.  

We can't wait to share all our learning with you at the Student Led Conferences!

Important Dates and Information

**Please read - Important information about AM Celebration of Learning**

March 13 - 10:00am - Due to unforeseen circumstances the AM Community Kindergarten Celebration of Learning date has been changed from March 12 to March 13 at 10:00am - Families are invited to attend and watch in the gym as we share our learning with the school!  

March 19 - Student Led Conferences. Please come in to visit our classroom and see our amazing learning! The students have been working hard and are excited to share their learning with you. Conference times are now available to sign up for on Powerschool. Please call the office if you need support with signing up. 

March 20-March 29 - No school for our Spring Break holiday. We will resume classes on Monday March 30. 

School Council Fundraisers: 

Chocolate Flowers and Butterflies -  School Council will be continuing to be selling chocolates for $2 each next week. If your child would like to participate please send $2 in their folder. 

CJM Merchandise - T-shirts, hoodies and hats are available for purchase to support our school. Please let me know if you need another form.

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a great week and loved getting to play outside again with the beautiful weather! 

We learned how to do felt art this week and we made hearts to go on our personal story panels. We focused on what makes our hearts happy and how to show our friends love. 

Next week we will be continuing with focusing on love and will begin thinking about how we can show ourselves love and care. We will choose individual centre time goals and think about how our choices affect our relationships. 

We will continue practicing rhyming words and will continue with the new sight words:    you    me     he     she

We will also learn the letters U and V and we will practice the vocabulary 'above' and 'below'.

We ran out during our Valentine's fundraiser and I still have the money of the students who brought some and didn't get one. I will support them with receiving their chocolate next week. Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day and all students are invited to wear pink to support anti-bullying.

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was exciting with another visit from Engineering for Kids. We turned into mechanical engineers and built "boomerangs". We were fascinated with how they roll back to us!  

We learned about triangles in Math and we made creative triangle pictures. Next week we will continue geometry by learning vocabulary to describe and compare different shapes. 

We have continued our personal story project by focusing on our hearts and love. We read the book My Heart Fills with Happiness and brainstormed ideas about what love is and we shared what makes our hearts happy. Next week we will continue with the character trait love and we will be making beautiful felt hearts to add to our personal story documentation. We can't wait to share all of our learning with you at the Student Led Conferences in March! 

We will continue practicing sight words and next week we will learn the letters S and T. 

To support our exploration and learning during centre time we will be creating "Centre Time Goals".

Dear Family and Friends,

This week we started learning about rhyming words and we read the book Dog on Log to help us recognize rhyming words. 

Next week we will be focusing on the language and idea of corners and sides on shapes. We will also learn about the letters Q and R.

Valentine's Day:

As we have been focusing on the character trait ‘love’ this month, on Wednesday, February 12 we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day by showing our friends in our class love and appreciation.  If you wish to send in Valentine’s cards for your child to share, please ensure there are enough for every student to receive one and address them “Dear Friend” instead of individual names.

Dentist Consent Forms: 
Alberta Health Services Flouride Varnish Dental Consent Forms will be sent home this week. Please return these forms by February 18. Treatments will be on February 19-20.

Fabric/Ribbon Donations Date Extension - Thank you so much to all the families that have sent in fabric so far. We will continue collecting fabric and ribbon for our personal story project over the next two weeks. Please return the form about cultural or family traditions and fabric/ribbon by February 18. 

February 13-17 - No School for all students for Teacher Convention and Family Day
