Dear Family and Friends,

October is Catch You Being Kind month! All month we will be catching the children doing acts of kindness around the classroom and towards their friends. To support this we have been focusing on making choices. Green choices are positive choices (being kind, listening, helping, sharing, etc) and red choices are negative choices (yelling, hitting, saying mean things, etc).

On Monday we honoured Orange Shirt day and the residential school survivors by making a hoop of diversity. The hoops represents how we all belong to our school and our classroom even though we are different. Are differences are what make us unique and special and we will continue to celebrate them throughout the year.

In Math we have been practicing sorting by colour and shape.

Our school occupational therapist, Ms. Julie did a lesson with us, teaching us how to draw a person. We learned all the different body parts and the shapes we can use to draw them. We sang the Mat Man song to help us remember each step. Check it out here:

Important Dates and Information

October 7-10 - This is Safety Week at our school. We will be having a practice lockdown, fire drill and evacuation walk during this week.

October 9 - The new bussing schedule starts for AM students who take the bus. Please ensure you are aware of your child's new pickup time.

October 11-14 - No school for students for teacher professional development and the thanksgiving holiday. See you on Tuesday, October 15th.

Winter Clothes - As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child has warm, waterproof outdoor clothes. Also keep a change of clothes in their backpack for emergencies. We will continue playing outside as much as possible, as fresh air and exercise are an important part of our students' learning.

Snack

  • Due to allergies, please don't send any snacks that have nuts.
  • Healthy Snack - Please ensure your child has some healthy snacks to choose from and avoid sending junk food (candy, chocolate, chips). Our snack time provides nutrition to the children and helps them have energy to learn. Some ideas are vegetable, fruit, yogurt, cheese, sandwiches, boiled eggs, whole grain crackers and granola bars. Thanks for your support with this.
  • Extra Snack - If your child is in school on FRIDAY please send extra food for your child. They have a long day and get hungry with all our busy activities!
