Dear Family and Friends,

We had a wonderful first week of fall! We learned all about the letter A and the sounds it makes. We practiced how to write uppercase and lowercase A and we used different materials to make 'A' and 'a' at centre time.

We learned about sharing circles and how they are a safe place to share our feelings. This week we had a sharing circle all about things that make us happy. We also had a sharing circle about the book When I Was Eight and how it made us feel when we saw what happened to the little girl (please see below about Orange Shirt Day to see more information about this).

We also learned all about our personal space bubbles and how nobody is allowed to go inside our space bubble unless they ask. We are learning the importance of being respectful and keeping our hands to ourselves.

Our AM class had fun moving our bodies and building friendships on the playground outside. Hopefully our PM class will get to go outside next week when it isn't raining/snowing!!

Reminders and Important Dates

Monday September 30

Orange Shirt Day - Students are invited to wear an orange shirt on September 30th to honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. We have been having discussions about things that make us feel safe, loved and cared for in our lives and in school. We read part of the book When I Was Eight, about a little girl in a residential school and we discussed how she must have felt feel unsafe and uncared for at this school. On Monday we will continue discussions around the importance of belonging and feeling welcome in our school.

Snack

  • Due to allergies, please don't send any snacks that have nuts.
  • Healthy Snack - Please ensure your child has some healthy snacks to choose from. Our snack time provides nutrition to the children and helps them have energy to learn. Some ideas are vegetable, fruit, yogurt, cheese, sandwiches, boiled eggs, whole grain crackers and granola bars. Thanks for your support with this.
  • Extra Snack - If your child is in school on FRIDAY or if they are in the AM class and take the bus home, please send extra food for your child. They have a long day and get hungry with all our busy activities!

Friday October 4

Scholastic Book Order Due - If you plan to purchase anything from the Scholastic flyer, please return the order form and payment by next Friday. Once I make the order it usually arrives within 1-2 weeks.
